FAQs

  • Because I’ve seen it all, been around the block, worked from dawn til dusk in an unfamiliar environment - and I do it all with jet lag and a smile on my face. I have a swiss-army-knife of skills from my years traveling and working on photography abroad. Nothing phases me. I could tell you stories that would make you snort coffee out your nose, curl your toes, or make you blush - or all three. And yet I return home every time with incredible images despite obstacles, fatigue, bad weather, despite violent food poisoning, twisted ankles, and even being mugged. Listen, when you have eaten a fried tarantula and lived to tell the tale, not a lot phases you anymore.

It means I am seasoned, down-to-earth, a calm and cool no matter what unfolds during your wedding or portrait session (hopefully not eating spiders or violent food poisoning, but you never know). In a bigger sense, I think having someone with a background in travel and adventure is smart because I see such a big picture. I see things in a scope of how vast and wonderful the world is and how humanity is connected all around the world. I have a carpe diem heart, and feel that we are so lucky to be alive and living and cherishing every second of this incredible life we are given. And I never take it for granted, not for one second. And I hope that is reflected in my work.

Lastly, if you want a session that embraces Vancouver Island, having a travel photographer means images full of place, rich with our colours and textures that make the westcoast so special, and will evoke wanderlust, wide eyes, and awe for this place we live.

  • You get the printing rights and personal use rights! That means you can download and print all your images, anywhere you like, as many times as you like. You can use them or give them as gifts. The only thing you cannot do it sell them for profit, or publish them without my permission. There’s more on this in my contract!

  • First of all, when I say Analog Film I’m not just trying to be a hipster show-off. I just mean film stills, images, not film as in movies / video.

So, Analog film. Film has an ineffable quality to it that digital simply can’t replicate. No amount of insta-filters will come close to real film. While the exact number of pixels is less than modern digital images, the feel of the sharpness and blur, the colours and tones, and that je-ne-sais-que vibe film has is totally worth it. I offer a really low risk approach to trying out film during your wedding day.

Film does require more time! We have to go slower, savour, and sink into the process. To me that’s a bonus. Plus all the awesome ASMR that comes with working with film. I have to check the light more carefully, do some math, focus manually etc. Meanwhile it appeals to couples who not only like the look but like the idea of imperfection - light leaks, soft focus, dust, etc.

We can do clean, classic, timeless film like magazines use, or we can do dirty, hard flash 90s film like the good old days. Whatever strikes you!

  • Here’s the thing - you don’t want them. Whoever whispered in your ear to ask for the RAWs likely doesn’t fully understand what a raw file is (not to sound concited). Chances are they meant unedited. But let’s talk about each thing:

RAW files are massive, unfinished files that are extremely flat and honestly dull. They contain a ton of light information and if you don’t know what to do with that information, it remains flat and dull. As such RAW files do not reflect me or my work. And to have someone else then edit my images is also an issue - my images are my art - but that’s if you can even open and manipulate the images to begin with. RAW files require very special programs to open and edit them.

If we can get to the root of the question, usually it’s about concern over the final edits. What if they’re too heavy, too filtery, too fake? Thing is, if you like what’s on my site, you will love your final images. Even if you get full sun when most of my work showcases cloudy days, even if you can’t make golden hour work, even if we end up pressed for time.

If there is any issues, you can come to me! I am here to help. I am not an egotistical person. I am open to feedback and willing to rework your images if you feel they don’t line up with what you signed on for somehow. All that to say - you don’t need the raws or the unedited files. I got you.

  • Obviously we DoorDash some hot drinks and dance in the downpour!

For real: We will have a solid rain plan! And onward we go - embracing every bump in your beautiful road towards marriage. I’ve worked in light rain, and I’ve worked in torrential downpours. All that matters is you focus on the big picture - saying your vows and beginning your lives together.

To be more specific: as your wedding week approaches and we have a clear picture of the weather, we begin to pivot, adjust, and back-up plan as required. I do this for a living, I will make sure you get the best day you can no matter the weather.

Meanwhile if we are surprised by rain, the travel ‘tog in me knows how to pivot quickly. That’s a skill when you’re working on the road, never knowing what’s coming around the corner. I got you!

  • Sure do! Whatever the government and health officials have set forth I enthusiastically adhere to. And I am happy to help you make sure your wedding not only complies but still feels creative, beautiful, momentous, safe, and memorable.
